Thymosin alpha-1 is a 28-residue peptide first isolated from thymus tissue in the 1970s. It corresponds to the N-terminal portion of thymosin beta-4, from which it is cleaved in vivo. The peptide carries an acetyl group at its N-terminus, a modification that affects its charge and stability. Synthetic material produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis is chemically identical to the natural fragment and is the form used in research and clinical studies.
Laboratory work indicates that the peptide acts on cells of both the innate and adaptive immune systems. Reported effects include signalling through Toll-like receptors on dendritic cells, enhanced T-cell maturation, and increased natural killer cell activity. These actions are described largely from cell-culture and animal experiments, and the precise receptor-level events remain incompletely defined. Studies in humans have generally measured immune markers rather than a single defined molecular target. The resulting picture remains partly descriptive.
Lyophilized material is generally held at reduced temperature to slow degradation, and storage at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower is common practice for long-term retention. Short-term working portions are often kept between two and eight degrees Celsius. Once dissolved, the peptide is less stable than the dry powder, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles are associated with loss of material and with aggregate formation. Vials are usually allowed to reach room temperature before opening so that condensation does not introduce moisture, and solutions are protected from light where practical.
Identity and purity are assessed mainly by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the peptide from closely related impurities and from truncated or oxidized variants. Mass spectrometry supplies the molecular mass and confirms the expected sequence length, while amino acid analysis can be used to check composition. Because the molecule has no chromophore beyond the peptide backbone, ultraviolet detection is typically performed at a low wavelength, where baseline interference from solvents and buffers is a practical concern. Water content and counter-ion content are often reported alongside purity.

Thymosin alpha-1 is a synthetic peptide of 28 amino acids, corresponding to the N-terminal fragment of prothymosin alpha. Its sequence begins with acetylation at the N-terminus, a modification that affects stability and receptor interaction. The peptide is acidic, with a calculated isoelectric point near 4.2, and carries no disulfide bonds, so its secondary structure is largely flexible in solution. Molecular mass is approximately 3108 daltons. The native form was first isolated from bovine thymus tissue, while pharmaceutical material is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis.
Within the immune system, the peptide acts on several cell types rather than a single target. Reported activities include promotion of T-cell maturation, enhancement of natural killer cell activity, and modulation of cytokine production by dendritic cells and macrophages. Some of these effects appear to operate through toll-like receptor signaling, though the precise receptor-level mechanism remains debated. Whether the observed immune changes translate into clinical benefit is a separate question and depends on the indication studied.
Like most short peptides, thymosin alpha-1 is susceptible to hydrolysis under strongly acidic or basic conditions and to oxidation when exposed to air over long periods. The acetylated amino terminus blocks one common degradation route, which contributes to the molecule's relative robustness in solution. Lyophilized material generally retains potency for extended periods when kept cold and dry. Once reconstituted, aqueous solutions are less stable and are typically used within a defined window rather than held indefinitely at ambient temperature.
Routine handling calls for storage of the lyophilized powder at refrigerated temperatures, away from light, in a sealed container. Working solutions are often prepared in sterile water or buffer and kept cold between uses. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are generally avoided because they can promote aggregation and loss of material. Laboratories usually record lot number, reconstitution date, and storage conditions so that any change in behavior can be traced to a specific preparation.
Psychiatrists interviewed by Doroshow recalled how insulin coma patients were provided with various routines and recreational and group-therapeutic activities, to a much greater extent than most psychiatric patients. Insulin coma specialists often chose patients whose problems were the most recent and who had the best prognosis; in one case discussed by Doroshow a patient had already started to show improvement before insulin coma treatment, and after the treatment denied that it had helped, but the psychiatrists nevertheless argued that it had.
Open water fish are usually streamlined like torpedoes to minimize turbulence as they move through the water. Reef fish live in a complex, relatively confined underwater landscape and for them, manoeuvrability is more important than speed, and many of them have developed bodies which optimize their ability to dart and change direction. Many have laterally compressed bodies (flattened from side to side) allowing them to fit into fissures and swim through narrow gaps; some use their pectoral fins for locomotion and others undulate their dorsal and anal fins. Some fish have grown dermal (skin) appendages for camouflage; the prickly leather-jacket is almost invisible among the seaweed it resembles and the tasselled scorpionfish invisibly lurks on the seabed ready to ambush prey. Some like the foureye butterflyfish have eyespots to startle or deceive, while others such as lionfish have aposematic coloration to warn that they are toxic or have venomous spines. Flatfish are demersal fish (bottom-feeding fish) that show a greater degree of asymmetry than any other vertebrates. The larvae are at first bilaterally symmetrical but they undergo metamorphosis during the course of their development, with one eye migrating to the other side of the head, and they simultaneously start swimming on their side. This has the advantage that, when they lie on the seabed, both eyes are on top, giving them a broad field of view. The upper side is usually speckled and mottled for camouflage, while the underside is pale. Some teleosts are parasites.
== Awards == Outback Steakhouse was ranked No. 1 in the 2023 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) restaurant study for overall satisfaction, menu variety, food quality and beverage quality. The Takeout published a related article, "America is falling in Love with Steakhouses all over again" which discusses the broader steakhouse category and Outback's standing in customer satisfaction coverage.

When the particles either pass through each other without interaction or elastically repel during the collision, the gained kinetic energy (related to speed) begins to revert into potential energy, driving the collided particles apart. The decelerating particles will return to the initial distance and beyond into infinity, or stop and repeat the collision (oscillation takes place). This shows that the system, which loses no energy, does not combine (bind) into a solid object, parts of which oscillate at short distances. Therefore, to bind the particles, the kinetic energy gained due to the attraction must be dissipated by resistive force. Complex objects in collision ordinarily undergo inelastic collision, transforming some kinetic energy into internal energy (heat content, which is atomic movement), which is further radiated in the form of photons – the light and heat. Once the energy to escape the gravity is dissipated in the collision, the parts will oscillate at a closer, possibly atomic, distance, thus looking like one solid object. This lost energy, necessary to overcome the potential barrier to separate the objects, is the binding energy. If this binding energy were retained in the system as heat, its mass would not decrease, whereas binding energy lost from the system as heat radiation would itself have mass. It directly represents the "mass deficit" of the cold, bound system. Closely analogous considerations apply in chemical and nuclear reactions.
== Conferences == Cold fusion researchers were for many years unable to get papers accepted at scientific meetings, prompting the creation of their own conferences. The International Conference on Cold Fusion (ICCF) was first held in 1990 and has met every 12 to 18 months since. Attendees at some of the early conferences were described as offering no criticism to papers and presentations for fear of giving ammunition to external critics, thus allowing the proliferation of crackpots and hampering the conduct of serious science. Critics and skeptics stopped attending these conferences, with the notable exception of Douglas Morrison, who died in 2001. With the founding in 2004 of the International Society for Condensed Matter Nuclear Science (ISCMNS), the conference was renamed the International Conference on Condensed Matter Nuclear Science—for reasons that are detailed in the subsequent research section above—but reverted to the old name in 2008. Cold fusion research is often referenced by proponents as "low-energy nuclear reactions", or LENR, but according to sociologist Bart Simon the "cold fusion" label continues to serve a social function in creating a collective identity for the field. Since 2006, the American Physical Society (APS) has included cold fusion sessions at their semiannual meetings, clarifying that this does not imply a softening of skepticism. Since 2007, the American Chemical Society (ACS) meetings also include "invited symposium(s)" on cold fusion.

sister chromatids A pair of identical copies (chromatids) produced as the result of the DNA replication of a chromosome, particularly when both copies are joined together by a common centromere; the pair of sister chromatids is called a dyad. The two sister chromatids are ultimately separated from each other into two different cells during mitosis or meiosis.
He followed this result with a semifinals showing in Beijing, losing to Danill Medvedev in their 5th meeting of the year. Unable to maintain his form, he lost in the second round of the Shanghai Masters against Roman Safiullin, where he was the defending finalist from 2019, and lost to Jordan Thompson in Tokyo. During the European indoor hardcourt season, Zverev made the quarterfinals in Vienna before losing to Andrey Rublev in three sets and reached the third round in Paris, losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas. Despite this, he qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time since 2021. At the event, he was drawn in the red group and defeated Carlos Alcaraz in three sets and Andrey Rublev in straight sets whilst losing to Medvedev. He failed to qualify for the semifinals after Alcaraz and Medvedev were more successful in terms of win-loss percentage in sets, ending his 2023 season.
All over the land of Rus', i.e., among the Cossacks, we have noticed a remarkable feature which made us marvel; all of them, with the exception of only a few among them, even the majority of their wives and daughters, can read and know the order of the church-services as well as the church melodies. Besides that, their priests take care and educate the orphans, not allowing them to wander in the streets ignorant and unattended.

It corresponds to the first 28 amino acids of thymosin beta-4, a larger protein found in many tissues. The fragment is acetylated at its N-terminus and is produced synthetically for research and pharmaceutical use. Synthetic and natural forms share the same sequence.
It is usually described as an immunomodulatory peptide rather than a classical hormone. It does not travel to a single distant organ in the manner of an endocrine hormone. Classification varies across sources, and some texts group it with thymic peptides generally.
The broad outline involves immune cell activation, but the specific molecular steps remain under investigation. Different studies report effects on dendritic cells, T cells, and natural killer cells. No single receptor has been confirmed as the sole mediator.
Cool storage below freezing is usual for long-term retention, with a desiccant and protection from light. Portions are often split before first use to avoid repeated handling.
